It works as an antifibrinolytic agent by competitively inhibiting the activation of plasminogen to plasmin, an enzyme responsible for the breakdown of fibrin clots. This medication is widely used in gynecology for menorrhagia (heavy menstrual bleeding), as well as in surgical procedures, dental extractions, trauma care, and bleeding associated with clotting disorders.
