Description
ALDOL-400 TAB contains Albendazole 400 mg, a potent benzimidazole-class anthelmintic widely used for the treatment of various intestinal and tissue parasitic worm infections. It is indicated for both single and mixed worm infestations and works effectively against roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, pinworms, and tapeworms.
Albendazole interferes with the metabolism of the parasites by inhibiting tubulin polymerization, which leads to energy depletion and death of the worms. This formulation is suitable for use in adults and children and is often part of mass deworming programs in endemic regions.
Ascariasis (roundworms)
Enterobiasis (pinworms)
Hookworm infections
Trichuriasis (whipworms)
Strongyloidiasis
Taeniasis (tapeworms)
Neurocysticercosis (larval stage of Taenia solium)
Hydatid disease (Echinococcosis)
Mass deworming campaigns (WHO-recommended)
Albendazole binds to tubulin in parasite cells, disrupting microtubule formation. This impairs glucose uptake and other essential metabolic processes in the worm, ultimately leading to energy depletion and death.
For adults and children over 2 years: 1 tablet of 400 mg orally as a single dose
For neurocysticercosis or hydatid disease: Higher and prolonged dosage under medical supervision
Best taken with food for enhanced absorption
Repeat dose may be required in some infections after 2 weeks
Contraindicated in pregnancy (especially 1st trimester)
Use with caution in liver impairment
Regular liver function monitoring for prolonged therapy
Not recommended for infants under 1 year unless advised by a physician
May interact with other drugs like anticonvulsants or steroids
Mild: Nausea, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness
Rare: Liver enzyme elevation, allergic reactions, bone marrow suppression (on prolonged use)
In neurocysticercosis: Corticosteroids may be prescribed to manage inflammatory responses
