Unlike blood-stage antimalarials, Primaquine is effective against hypnozoites—the dormant liver stages of the parasite responsible for relapse.

This medication is commonly used following the administration of a blood schizonticide like chloroquine to ensure a complete cure by eradicating any residual liver-stage parasites. PRIMAQUINE 7.5 TABLET is also effective in gametocytocidal activity, thereby reducing malaria transmission.
